A Little About Me:

I am a true believer of FAMILY! I am a mother of six beautiful children ranging in ages from three to seventeen! A wife, of twenty years, to my high school sweetheart and love of my life. I truly enjoy my job as wife and mother. I also enjoy cooking, gardening and researching almost anything. As a family we have been on a personal transformation to live a life that respects our earth and hope to share our adventures with others, in hopes of keeping our world healthy for many, many generations to come.

About 750 Square Feet

So this is our little house. It is all toll about 750 square feet. So just to help you paint a picture … six children (four rambunctious boys and to teenagers), two large dogs, five cats, a mom and a dad … we all live in this little space.聽 Some may ask why? So here is a little about our adventure.

For many years now we have been on a journey to figure out where we wanted to be, where we could afford to be and how we wanted to live our lives. One thing that keeps coming to the top of the list is community. We have looked at existing communities and have talked of starting our own but have yet to figure out all the details to make this work.

About four years ago our journey to find a home (sort of) started … we sold our big OLD house in Vermont that we could not afford and started thinking about where we wanted to be. After many hours of conversations, lists of pros and cons and even a big map and charts on the walls, we decided that we were trying to hard to make something work … if it is meant to be then it will happen. So that became our plan … see what happens! And life sure has taken us on an adventure. We moved 3 times in one year with the final move being 1000 miles from home to Tennessee but for once it seemed right … all the pieces fit together nicely and we were happy with our decisions. Then last year we were once again TRYING to figure out what our next step was … and again the puzzle pieces started falling into place. We met two wonderful families that are also interested in community. They inspired us to follow our hearts! Which brings us to our little house … we decided we wanted to move to the Allen County, KY area. So we found this little house on a little lot … not really our family dream house but livable and a perfect stepping stone because we could afford to buy it, YES that is right buy it with cash, no mortgage, no financing, no payments! So we did, February of 2011 we bought a house and there it sat until we could figure out the details to move there … jobs, etc!

This summer, once again the pieces came together. Dan found a job very close to our house and we moved. Let me say this move has not come without obstacles, but that is another post! But the reality is that looking back it has all worked out and we are continuing to work things out. For now our little house provides us everything we need with the added feature of being able to pay off all our other debt … something I NEVER thought would happen!

So 750 square feet … well it is small but it is all ours! And I hope to add to it soon but for now … we are indeed making it work. We do have a storage building outback and so only the necessities come into the house right now.

In looking for creative small space ideas, I have found some very cute little houses. And honestly my favorite thing is I can clean the whole house in a very short time. Which I should probably do! Hope you have a wonderful day.

Peace, love and kindness,

I remember the title of a book (that I didn’t read): “Don’t Push the River (It Flows by Itself)” by Barry Stevens. Maybe I will look for it. Amy, this is all wonderful and fulfilling. May your dreams continue to flow – without pushing.

  • The fact you own it outright is incredibly cool! What freedom and peace of mind you have now!

Hi, if there’s a link to the story on your blog that I missed, let me know, but if not, can you explain more about forming your own community? It sounds very intriguing! Also, do you have any tips or pictures of how to make the most of a small house?
